Hickory Creek, Lake Lewisville
Adventure #2, Hickory Creek Campgrounds on Lake Lewisville, was another close to home short stay. We were on a mission to perfect our routine before we set out on a nine day road trip few days later. This was my first time pulling the boat with the truck. I was pretty nervous, but it was much easier than I expected!
The park overall is a small one and the sites are pretty basic. Our spot was a nice lake front area with a place to beach the boat. There is no playground that we could find, even though I read online that they had one. The bike trails were pretty short. Plenty of ducks to feed, but they were not interested or just didn’t like the boat. To our surprise, there was also plenty of snakes! We crossed one on the road as we drove in and saw several swimming in the lake. Watching the kids and me all fighting to jump back into the boat when I spotted one swimming near us was a comedy show on par with The Three Stooges.
We had friends join us for this trip. This RV site allows tents and there was a perfect clearing at the top of hill. They pitched their tent, but it was a very hot Texas summer night and pretty uncomfortable for the tent dwellers.
We had a fun couple of days cooking out, riding bikes, and boating. We also tried a different kind of hike, blindfold hiking. In this game, hikers take turns being blindfolded while others’ guide them. The blindfolded hiker observes nature using her senses other than sight. However, the highlight of the trip was the kids’ first fishing experience. My daughter caught her first fish. My youngest did not catch anything, but spent hours practicing his casting. I could not even “lure” him away with s’mores.
My husband can officially be called a digital nomad as he has mastered the art of working from the camper. We now feel confident to take the #ChampagneOnDeck show on the road a little farther and a little longer in the summer. Our goal is to make the best of what has so far been a crazy, heartbreaking, and sometimes scary 2020.
Things to do at Hickory Creek, Lake Lewisville
But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. ~Job 12:7-10
