A big question for the RV owner when traveling across the Unites States is always where to stop and rest when between major destinations. Last summer, my family took a midwest road from Texas to South Dakota. On the way to South Dakota, we stopped in Kansas and Nebraska. Mormon Island lies just off Interstate 80 and turned out to be a perfect, inexpensive stop along our route for a nice overnight stay. If you find yourself looking for a Grand Island, NE camping experience keep reading to learn more about why this park was so enjoyable for our family.

Pros and Cons
Mormon Island, Grand Island, NE Camping: Pros
- The RV park camping area lots are large and spacious. We were able to get a pull-through.
- The park has a tent area for those who rough it.
- Sites with electrical hookups are available.
- Sites come with shared water hookups.
- The campground does not offer full hook ups, but there is a dump station on site.
- They offer both reservation and walk up camp sites.
- The sites have fire rings and grills available.
- The park is supposed to have laundry facilities, but we did not need them, so I can not say.
- There are an abundance of covered picnic tables on concrete slabs, including a large pavilion area great for group gatherings.
- Large wooded area with hiking trails. We had the best time exploring this area, but did not go in too far. There are so many trails and without a map or signage, we feared getting lost.
- Lake 2’s beach is absolutely gorgeous.
- There is an easy geocache to find while enjoying a scenic hike around the lake.
- The plethora of lighting bugs was a trip highlight for my kids.
- Abundant wildlife makes this the perfect place for wildlife viewing.
- Magnificent birds such as Sandhill cranes, geese, ducks, and other waterfowl offer a very popular tourist attraction in the Spring.
- Fishing is a favorite at this park with fish species such as largemouth bass, black crappie, channel catfish, and more.
- After fishing, take advantage of the fish cleaning stations.
- Lakes 2 and 3 have a boat ramp.

Mormon Island, Grand Island, NE Camping: Conclusion
My family had a wonderful time at Mormon Island RV campground in Grand Island, NE and would love to visit again. This fantastic campground is in a convenient location when traveling Interstate 80 on a midwest adventure and offers numerous recreation opportunities. Consider taking a camping trip here in the Spring. From mid February to late March visitors can witness the world’s largest gathering of Sandhill cranes and a variety of geese! Go in early Spring because the birds start heading farther north after the first of April.
