Since starting this blog, I have fallen in love with Texas State Parks. Did you know that Texas has 89 state parks! Deciding which one to visit next can be a challenge. I reached out to a few of our Texas State Parks that I have yet to visit and asked them all the same questions: “What unique or most enjoyed activities does your campsite offer campers?”
Texas State Parks Interview Answers:
San Angelo State Park
“The ability to get up close and visit with our Bison and Longhorn herds.”
Jarrett Miller, Assistant Superintendent
Seminole Canyon State Park & Historic Site
“Seminole Canyon State Park & Historic Site is full of rich History we offer guided tours to one of the oldest rock painting in North America, we also have phenomenal exhibits in our Visiting Center. Campers have the most amazing views of the canyons and sky at night, along with 8 ½ miles worth of hike and bike trails. We are definitely a Hidden Gem once you’ve been here you always want to come back.”
Maria Trevino, Office Manager
Monahans Sandhills State Park
“Our campground offers water & electricity at each campsite (15, 30 & 50 amps). We do not have sewage hook ups, but do offer a dump station. We also have nice heated restrooms with hot water, also with ADA accessibilities. We have pull thru and back in sites. We offer our guest that option of keeping the sand sleds their entire length of their stay at the price of a day’s rental ($6.00 per sled) Our park has some great scenic views of sun sets, sunrises and enjoyable view of those that simply enjoy star gazing.”
Roma Chavez, Office Clerk
Caprock Canyons State Park
“Here at Caprock Canyons State Park, we have a variety of campsites from water and electric, water only, and primitive. Generally speaking, our campsites offer a unique experience to:
View free-range southern plains bison in their native habitat
Enjoy scenic canyon views
Enjoy a quiet escape
Our scenic canyon landscape with the Texas State Bison Herd offers a one of a kind, almost Yellowstone-like experience and is definitely the draw to the park here. One can experience all of these things in any one of our camping loops.”
Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
“Offers spectacular views of the Texas Hill Country and hiking on unique pink granite rock formations found only in central Texas.”
Stephanie Croatt, Assistant Superintendent
Purtis Creek State Park
I think Purtis Creek State Park is unique in the fact that is has so many shaded campgrounds which offer more privacy to the campers than other parks in the vicinity. Also, no fishing license are need when fishing at the park. That’s a nice savings to a family looking for a fun activity that doesn’t cost much. There are well lit fishing piers, fish cleaning stations and a boat ramp. Plus a nice summer swimming area and playground.

I love reading all these post about State Parks. Can’t wait to see some in Texas. I have been to a few in Arizona.
We do! Canada is on my bucket list, but that is a LONG drive from Texas with my RV.
What a creative idea!! I love how we get to hear directly from the park hosts. And I had no idea that Texas had so many state parks. Hope to visit some of them some day!
I love our local Provincial Parks (the Canadian Version of State Parks) they have such amazing camping, and they are often easier to book compared to the more famous National Parks.
It sounds like you have amaaazing options in Texas. 🙂
Love that the Texas state parks all have their own personalities and something special! They definitely offer some fun and unique activities!
Great overview! I always end up spending too much time in Houston and Dallas. Gotta spread out next time!
Easy to do, but the great state of Texas has so much more. Please do!
Great list of state parks to visit and what to do in them. I’ll add a couple to my list the next time I’m in Texas.
