18 Things to do in Kansas with Kids: How to Have Fun Road Trip Stops

If you have been following my blog, you know that my family has been enjoying a 17-day United States midwest road trip. As all of our trips do, this adventure started in Texas. Our major destinations have been South Dakota; Branson, MO; and Ponca State Park in Nebraska. However, we passed through Kansas twice on our route. Even though each time was only a one night stay, we found some great things to do in Kansas with kids.

1. Camping and Geocaching at the KOA Holiday

Our first pass through Kansas was on our way to South Dakota from Texas. It landed us at the Wellington KOA Holiday. After a five hour drive pulling the RV, this campground made for a great place to stop for the night. The staff was friendly and even gave the kids free fuzzy yellow and black KOA koozies and coloring sheets from the gift shop. That evening, the kids burned off some pent-up energy at the pool and play area.

The next morning it was raining, but that did not stop us from getting out and doing a little geocaching in the area. Geocaching is one of my favorite go-to kids entertainment options. Geocache is a game of scavenger hunts. People hide little “treasures” all around the world. The map in the Geocache app helps players find them. When players find a geocache, they sign the log, take a treasure and leave a treasure. My kids love the thrill of the hunt and get excited about the little trinkets they find. We always keep a few knick knacks in the camper to leave behind in the geocaches we find.

Where We Stayed

Leaving Ponca State Park to make our way to Branson, MO sent us passing through Kansas again. This time we passed through Kansas City. In Kansas City, we experienced our first “in city” park, the Walnut Grove RV park. My husband has to work from the camper, so we chose this park due to its excellent WiFi. We ran a speed test and it was 20 Mbps up and 45 Mbps down. By far, this was the most superior WiFi speed we have experienced at a RV park or campground. Most other places we have visited provide less than 1 Mbps.

Walnut Grove RV Park is a very small, no frills park, but all of the employees were very friendly. I was able to get caught up on our laundry while my kids played the complimentary video games in the guest lounge. Funny thing to brag about, but they also have awesome dryers! I have had the hardest time getting our clothes to completely dry in other RV park/campground laundry rooms. I can not stand to have a camper full of dirty or damp laundry.

Things to do with Kids in Kansas City

7 America’s Incredible Pizza Company

Camping is our first love, but being in the city for this one night, we needed something new and fun to do. We had already done so many summer fun activities like water parks, camping, museums, nature trails, and historic landmarks, but we wanted something a little different to do with the kids at this Kansas City stop. Finding something to do that everyone would like can be such a challenge. As I was searching for things to do, I found the common tourist sites, but we really wanted something family centered and fun for kids of all ages.

During my search I saw this place called America’s Incredible Pizza Company. I checked out their website and it looked so fun! There were lots of game packages to choose from, they had a buffet, and it had a fun retro theme that was very cute. I saw other advertisements for family fun centers that were either too expensive, food was too pricey, or there were not enough kid friendly fun activities. I wanted to take the kids to a place where they could have great food, a great time, and great memories. The America’s Incredible Pizza Company looked to be one of the best places for us. We ended up adjusting our travel plans a bit to pass through Kansas City on Sunday, because they were not open Monday, our original Kansas City date. They are also closed on Tuesdays.

Why America’s Incredible Pizza Company

We had the best time at the American Incredible Pizza Company. It is a MUST visit! The Kansas City location is brand new to the area. It’s obvious this place is getting popular fast, because there were a lot of people visiting the same night we did. However, it was not so crowded that we had to wait in long lines. The only wait we experienced was for the go-carts, but even then, they put our name on a waitlist to be sent a text when it was our turn. We were able to continue playing other games and enjoy the kind of rides I have only seen before at theme parks.

Below, I have outlined a few more reasons why America’s Incredible Pizza Company is the perfect place to include on this list of things to do with kids in Kansas City.

🕹 Numerous Activities

This place is a 73,000 square foot facility that has more to do than any other family entertainment center in the area! They have 14 rides, attractions, and over 150 video and arcade games. They have all my personal favorites like Bumper Cars and Laser Tag. My kids love their exciting rides: The Scrambler, La Bamba, The Whip, and a Laser Maze (ninja skills). It’s like a mini-indoor Worlds of Fun. Not to mention, they have unique things, the area’s first Glow-in-the-Dark Go-Kart track, a Ropes Course, and new virtual reality game- Beat Saber.

🍕 Food Selection

It has more than just pizza, they have a buffet with the best things to eat! With hungry kiddos or a hungry mom, they have a big variety to choose from. They have over 150 food items. Perfect for even the pickiest of eaters. The buffet includes a taco bar, a potato bar, a pasta bar, a salad bar and you can’t forget the freshly made desserts. If my kid wants pizza of course, there are tons of toppings and pizzas to choose from. They make MANY different varieties of pizza each day, with three different crusts: original, lavash, and deep pan, made from scratch dough! For those with allergy concerns, they even have gluten free crust and an allergen chart that can be scanned with a phone to see all of the items and what they contain. That is extremely helpful for lots of moms and their families.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Perfect for the Entire Family

No matter the ages coming to Incredible Pizza Company, the whole family will have fun! My kids, ages six and nine, went on a mission to get as many tickets as they could with the claw machines and ticketed games. Being the baseball fans that we are, my son had his eye on the Kansas City Royals baseball toy.

They even have a Tiny Town, which is a special area just young kids with many free admission attractions. Everything in the area is little kid friendly!

We also saw many older children and adults enjoying themselves. Of course, parents play along with the kids or they can head over to the place called, The Porch. The Porch is an adult hangout for the parents to relax, as Incredible Pizza founder and CEO shared, “We wanted an area where Mom & Dad could relax and still enjoy the sights and sounds of the Fairgrounds.” So, you can take a moment for rest and relaxation.

Things to do with Kids in Kansas Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this list of 18 things to do in Kansas with kids. Planning a 17-day road trip can be quite the challenge. Finding something to do on those one night “on the road” stops is difficult. My family told me over and over again how much they loved what all I planned, especially The America’s Incredible Pizza Company. We did not know that indoor amusement parks like this existed. It ended up being a great way for us to break up a long road trip.
